Coaching vs therapy

Coaching vs Therapy what's the difference I hear you say??

It's actually something that I make sure is clarified right from the outset, usually during the first discovery call when a potential client is figuring out if coaching is for them.

Therapy or Counselling deals with issues from your past that are still impacting on you in the now. Its focus is supporting you to understand and heal while at the same time looking to why you may do or react to something in a certain way. Therapists also treat mental disorders

Coaching is future focused, where are you right now, where do you want to be and the how of getting there. Coaching is also goal orientated - what do you want to achieve?

By curiously exploring your mindset and beliefs you start to take action to achieve your goals.

Now I'm not saying that the past doesn't come up in coaching sessions, because it does. But the focus is on what you've learnt from a situation or event and then using that to help you continue to move forward.

Coaching also has a really defined end - when by your own measurement, you have achieved your goal!
